- Does Masas fabricate exposed architectural steel?
- Yes. Masas engineered, fabricated and erected a new entrance structure at InterContinental Doha, where every guest sees the steel at arm’s length, so the weld and finish standard was an architectural one. Masas also designed and fabricated eight retail buildings for Qetaifan Projects in Lusail, with steel exposed to a public promenade.
- How does Masas protect exposed steel near the coast?
- Masas delivers surface protection as part of the steel package, to the project specification: blast-cleaning and a paint system, and hot-dip galvanising where the design calls for it. Salt air speeds up corrosion, so the specification for a coastal structure, such as the Qetaifan Projects retail plaza in Lusail, needs to reflect that exposure.
- Can Masas supply the entrance steel and its envelope together?
- Yes. At InterContinental Doha, Masas carried the entrance structure together with its building envelope solutions. Roofing and cladding systems are named in Masas’s ISO-certified scope alongside structural steel, so the frame and the envelope can come under one subcontract and one team answers for the joint between them.
- Is architectural steel within Masas’s ISO certification?
- Yes. The ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certificates held by Masas name structural steel buildings and miscellaneous steel work within their scope, covering construction, installation and erection rather than fabrication alone.
- Will Masas work from an architect’s design?
- Yes. Masas prices steel as a full package of design, fabrication and erection, or as any part of it. On the Qetaifan Projects retail plaza Masas carried design, fabrication and erection supervision. In every case the shop drawings go to the project consultant for approval against QCS 2014 before fabrication starts.
